Beach cleanup highlights commitment to ocean sustainability

On Saturday 22 June 2024, we gathered to reflect on the importance of healthy and clean oceans. As global dredging and marine experts, we understand that the oceans and beaches are our natural working environment, and we are deeply committed to treating ‘our global office’ with the utmost care. Maintaining clean beaches and raising awareness about this critical issue are crucial steps in preserving the health of our oceans.

Our commitment aligns seamlessly with the Anglican Communion's fifth mark of mission: to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth. This alignment infuses this event with profound significance. It is also a momentous occasion for St. Luke’s Church as it works toward officially becoming a green church, symbolizing its dedication to resilience and sustainability.

Details of the event are as follows:

- Date: 22nd June 2024

- Time: 7am

- Location: Suva point

Additionally, this initiative forms a vital component of the ongoing Certificate IV in Resilience program offered by USP Pacific TAFE in partnership with St. John the Baptist Theological College of the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia . This program also includes students from the Anglican church of Melanesia   in the Solomon’ islands and is designed to equip learners with the necessary skills to actively engage in resilience initiatives, thereby supporting both community and environmental health.

In embracing this cause, we not only honor our role as stewards of the marine environment but also fulfill our spiritual mission to protect and renew the earth. By working together, we can foster a more resilient and sustainable future for both our communities and our planet.
