Participation at the UNESCO MGIEP Participatory Workshop, New Delhi, India, 29 Nov – 1 Dec 2023

About the Event

The workshop series organized by MGIEP (Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainability Development) represented a holistic approach to understanding and addressing the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing today’s youth. Through collaborative discussions, innovative ideas, and the development of practical strategies, the sessions highlighted the vital role of youth in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future. The insights and outcomes from these sessions underscore the importance of empowering young people with the tools, knowledge, and platforms necessary to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

Mr. Pallawish Kumar spoke at the forum:

“Youth are passionately invested in environmental sustainability within the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), seeking avenues to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource conservation. Their interests revolve around engaging in practical solutions, from community-based initiatives to advocating for policy changes that prioritize the environment. In the short term, youth require skills such as environmental literacy, scientific understanding, and project management to actively contribute to immediate environmental challenges. Long-term development involves cultivating leadership in sustainability, systems thinking, and innovative problem-solving. They seek international networks that offer capacity-building programs focused on environmental science and policy, inclusive dialogues that amplify youth voices in decision-making, and platforms for advocacy to influence global environmental agendas. However, challenges persist in accessing these opportunities due to limited funding, unequal access to education, and barriers in participating, including visa restrictions and logistical complexities, hindering their effective engagement in international programs centered around environmental sustainability.”
